Tharu in Nepal
Tharu Community
Victoria
We are a registered not-for-profit incorporated association representing the Tharu people of Nepal living in Victoria, Australia. Our roots trace back to the lush Terai plains — particularly the forests and river valleys of Nepal.
Known as Dhartiputra — Children of the Earth — the Tharu are one of Nepal's oldest indigenous peoples. For over a millennium they inhabited the dense, malarial Terai that others considered uninhabitable, building rich civilizations in harmony with the jungle.
In Victoria, we serve as a cultural bridge: preserving Tharu language, dance, art, and festivals while building a strong and supportive diaspora community.
